The Sagittarius symbol
Sagittarius is the archer, usually drawn as a centaur, half human and half horse, aiming a bow at the sky. The glyph ♐ is the archer's arrow pointing up and away, a good picture of a sign always aiming for the next horizon.
Many astrology books name the archer as Chiron, the wise centaur who taught Achilles and other heroes. In the older Greek and Roman star lore recorded by Eratosthenes and Hyginus, though, Chiron is the separate constellation Centaurus, and the archer is Crotus, son of Pan and companion of the Muses, said to have invented archery. Both traditions are still in use, so you will see either name.
Temperance is the card for Sagittarius, a card of balance and patience that reminds a fast-moving fire sign to mix enthusiasm with moderation. The pairing comes from the Golden Dawn tradition that most modern tarot decks follow.
When is Sagittarius season?

Sagittarius compatibility
Sagittarius's easiest matches are Aries, Leo, Libra and Aquarius, whose elements support Fire. Its opposite sign, Gemini, brings strong attraction and a lot to learn. By tradition, the hardest pairings for Sagittarius are Virgo and Pisces, which square it, and Taurus and Cancer, which sit at an awkward 150° quincunx. Those signs want more closeness, routine or detail than Sagittarius likes at first, so the freedom question comes up early, and settling it honestly is what makes these pairings work.

Did the zodiac dates change? What about Ophiuchus?
No. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is tied to the March equinox and the seasons, so Sagittarius still runs from about Nov 22 to Dec 21. The constellations with the same names have drifted because of precession, a slow wobble in Earth's axis, so the Sun now sits in front of different stars on those dates. Ophiuchus, the serpent bearer, is a constellation the Sun crosses in late November and early December, and it has never been one of the 12 tropical signs.
Jupiter is expanding your sense of what's possible today. An idea that seemed far-fetched is looking more viable, maybe because circumstances have shifted, or maybe because you're finally letting yourself take it seriously. Don't dismiss the optimism, but do question it. If you've been feeling constrained by routine, today is a good day to introduce one small change. You don't need to overhaul everything to feel the freedom you're looking for. Start with a single decision made entirely for your own growth.
