Nine of Wands
⟂
Upright Meaning
You may be battle-worn but still standing, and that matters. The Nine of Wands shows up when you've been through a lot and there's still a little more to go. Rest if you need to, but don't abandon what you've fought for. You're closer than you feel.
Reversed Meaning
Exhaustion is making everything look more threatening than it is, or you've become so defended that you're no longer letting anything good in either. Rest isn't the same as giving up. What would it feel like to set the guard down just for a moment?

What the Nine of Wands card shows
A man with a bandaged head leans on a wand and glances warily to one side, while eight more wands stand in a row behind him like a fence. He looks tired and watchful, as though he has been fighting for a long time. The bandage shows the wounds he carries, and the fence of wands shows how much ground he has already defended.

Reversed in love, the Nine of Wands shows defenses so high that nothing gets in, or a partner who is simply too worn out to keep trying. Suspicion left over from an old hurt may be coloring a new person unfairly.
